Ninja Turtles remained on top for another week, with Guardians close behind again.

Turtles took in another $28.4 million over the weekend, putting it just over $117 million total, despite pretty mixed opinions and reviews.

Guardians has passed over $222 million for it’s three weeks out and has already passed Thor: The Dark World’s box office take and should pass The Winter Soldier as well, putting it in the upper tier of Marvel movies.  It will probably make over $280 million before everything is said and done.

Of the new releases, Let’s Be Cops was the shocking best performer, with $17.7 million for the weekend and over $26 million including it’s Wednesday and Thursday totals.  It’s a better release that most comedies released in recent years in August, like The Change Up and 30 Minutes or Less and it’s also up on much more star powered comedies released this year, like Sex Tape and A Million Ways to Die in the West.

Expendables 3 took a massive blow, possibly due to piracy, possibly to the rating change to PG-13, with a disappointing $16 million opening, less than half of the first Expendables opening weekend.

The Giver rounded out the top 5 with $12.8 million, putting it in the same league as other Hunger Games/Twilight wannabes like The Host, Mortal Instruments and Beautiful Creatures.

Down at the bottom of the charts, Boyhood expanded to more theaters over the weekend and made it into the top 10 at number 10 with $2.2 million.
