Musical Montage: Mussorgsky “A Night on Bald Mountain”

A staple of those “Halloween party” music CDs or mood setters is Mussorgky’s epic and creppy “A Night on Bald Mountain”.  Part of a larger group of compositions to create a “tone poem”, the piece is meant to bring about images of witches celebrating their sabbath on St. John’s Eve.  The most famous use of the song was probably it’s segment in Disney’s Fantasia, where one of the creepiest and intimidating Disney creations, the demonic Chernabog, is featured.  Check out the Fantasia segement below.
