Matthew McConaughey and Hunger Games director Gary Ross team up for a movie inspired by actual events, Free State of Jones. Fighting for the Confederacy, farmer Newt Knight (McConaughey) becomes disillusioned when his son is killed in battle and he sees that the rich plantation owners are letting the regular folks fight for them while they get richer, so Newt starts a rebellion against the rebellion, taking out Confederate troops while declaring his home of Jones County a free state. Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Keri Russell and Mahershala Ali co-star and the movie arrives in May, which is kind of a strange time for a historical movie, up against the big blockbusters of the summer but it does feel more like a crowd pleaser like The Patriot than say, Lincoln. I’m like the J. Jonah Jameson of Everything Action, writing and editing and constantly demanding pictures of Spider-Man.
