Despite the insanely negative response from critics, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice shattered box office records over the weekend with the highest ever March opening, the highest ever Easter opening, the highest ever opening for Warner Bros, the highest opening ever for a DC comics movie, the seventh highest opening domestically of all time and the fourth highest worldwide opening of all time.  The movie made $170 million for it’s domestic opening weekend and $254 million worldwide, for a grand total of $424 million.

Zootopia dropped down to a distant second with $23 million, bringing it to over $240 million for it’s 4 weeks out.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 opened to an expected $18 million as counter-programming to BvS and could top out around $70 million but that would be way off from the juggernaut of the first movie, which made over $240 million on a measly $5 million budget.

Miracles from Heaven and Allegiant rounded out the top 5 with a too close to call $9.5 million each.

Elsewhere on the list, My Name is Doris and Eye in the Sky moved into wider release, with Eye in the Sky making just over $1 million in only 123 theaters, putting into tenth place from 21st last weekend while My Name is Doris took ninth with $1.7 million in 488 theaters.
