Starz has been pumping out some fun, pulpy shows over the last few years like Black Sails, Da Vinci’s Demons and Ash vs Evil Dead and their drama Outlander gained some critical attention this year as well but next year, their most ambitious show ever debuts with an adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s highly acclaimed novel American Gods. Helmed by Hannibal’s Bryan Fuller, American Gods follows ex-con Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) who meets the mysterious Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane) at his wife’s funeral and gets drawn into a war between the Old Gods, like the ones from Norse mythology for example, and the New Gods, who represent modern concepts like technology. The show has an extremely interesting and eclectic cast including Crispin Glover, Pablo Schreiber, Cloris Leachman, Peter Stormare and Gillian Anderson just to name a few. David Slade rejoined Fuller to direct the pilot, so it has that same gorgeous look that Hannibal had and it could be even more violent than Hannibal as the restraints of network are released. The show arrives sometime early next year and you can check out the trailer released at Comic Con below.
I’m like the J. Jonah Jameson of Everything Action, writing and editing and constantly demanding pictures of Spider-Man.
