It was good news, bad news for Suicide Squad at the box office this weekend as it took in over $135 million, setting the new record for August releases, topping previous record holder Guardians of the Galaxy, but it also had a massive drop off from Friday to Saturday ticket sales, seemingly indicating bad word of mouth.  It was about $30+ million off Batman v Superman’s opening in March, which was $166 million.  Next weekend we’ll have to see how significant the drop off is.

Speaking of drop offs, Jason Bourne fell off 61% from last weekend’s opening, pulling in another $22 million and putting it over $103 million for it’s two weeks out.

Bad Moms stayed in third and made another $14 million and it’s made $51 million for it’s two weeks out and it’s topped almost all the other big comedies of the year with the exception of The Boss, but it’s closing in on that movie’s $63 million.

Secret Life of Pets and Star Trek Beyond rounded out the top 5, with the latter having another big drop off from the previous weekend and crossing over $127 million for it’s three weeks out but is taking blows from both Bourne and now Suicide Squad.

Nine Lives came in sixth for it’s terrifyingly real opening weekend and made $6.5 million, putting it at 16th for Kevin Spacey movies.

Nothing else really moved too drastically and this coming weekend is a strange batch of movies, so it’s anyone’s guess what will hit.
