Issue 164 continues the story arc of Mouse Trap; a plot that involves Nezumi the thief, the police force of Usagi and inspector Ishida, and the Black Goblin Gang. After the Black Goblin Gang had framed Nezumi for murder, Usagi and Ishida have been investigating into the corruption at the town mint, tracking down into who has been stealing pure sliver ingots. After Usagi is lured into a trap, he is confronted by members of the Black Goblin Gang and must battle his way out. Else where, Boss Hokose, the leader of the Black Goblin Gang, meets in secret with the true master mind behind this situation. Who is this hidden figure and what does this mean for all those involved?
In this issue, the blades come out and some henchmen learn why you don’t mess with Usagi Yojimbo. Even after a surprise attack, Usagi can still draw a sword and put up a fierce fight. Series is known for its cartoon-y action sequences, but there is a sense of regret after Usagi has begun his attack.
Stan Sakai artwork depicts just the right amount of violence that doesn’t take away from the main focus of the story. This being the second part of the three part act finally has Usagi Yojimbo displaying his sword skills and his really intense fighting face. Just look at that grim, reminds me of the original 1989 TMNT toy.
Usagi Yojimbo #164 will be released December 6th.
