Musical Montage: Beastie Boys “Body Movin'”

For most of their music videos, the Beastie Boys were usually parodying a genre like 70’s cop shows or Kaiju movies but they focused in on one particular movie for the video for their single “Body Movin”, the second single off of Hello Nasty.  With a video directed by MCA, “Body Movin” was an homage to the cult Italian classic Danger: Diabolik, with the Beasties recreating specific scenes while also incorporating footage from the actual movie.  The movie was released in 1968 and did not fare very well with critics or at the box office and was featured during Season 11 of MST3K.  There has been a reevaluation of the movie in recent years and the cinematography, score and acting have all gotten much more positive response from critics and along with the “Body Movin” video, it’s also inspired things like Danger 5 and Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs The World.  The song peaked at #15 on the Billboard Modern Rock chart and doesn’t seem to have made an impact on the Hot 100.  Check out the music video below.
