  • Zombieland 2 moving forward with original cast: After almost 10 years, a bizarre possible Amazon show continuation and more, Zombieland 2 is a go at Sony with Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin returning along with director Ruben Fleischer, who is currently on Venom for Sony.
  • Black Widow movie gets a director: Marvel is finally developing a solo Black Widow movie and have found a director in Australia’s Cate Shortland, who has directed films like Lore and Berlin Syndrome. The rumor is this movie will be a full origin for Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff, going into her days as an assassin and then her recruitment by SHIELD.
  • Alternate Alien 3 coming to Dark Horse: Dark Horse is producing a new comic miniseries based on the unused screenplay for Alien 3 by sci-fi legend William Gibson.  The comic will be five issues and Gibson’s version follows Ripley, Newt, Hicks and Bishop following Aliens as they are caught between two warring governments looking to take control of the Xenomorph that has stowed away in their escape ship.  The series begins in November.
  • New Mondo board game is Jurassic Park: The Chaos Gene: The follow-up to The Thing: Infestation at Outpost 31 is a new designer board game based on Jurassic Park.  The Chaos Gene is a 2-4 player game where you can choose between 4 different factions: Park Visitors, INGEN, Raptors or the T-Rex and each group has objectives they are trying to achieve on Isla Nublar to win the game.  The game will have incredible looking miniatures and art and will be out in the fall.
  • The First Purge coming to Halloween Horror Nights: The recently released The First Purge is getting a maze at this year’s Halloween Horror Nights.  The maze will put visitors on Staten Island as the NFFA conducts their “social experiment” of letting people indulge in 12 hours of zero laws.
  • Tim Heidecker joins Jordan Peele’s new movie: Comedian Tim Heidecker has joined the cast of Us, Jordan Peele’s follow-up to Get Out.  Lupita Nyong’o, Elisabeth Moss and Winston Duke were previously cast and there’s really no information about the movie will be about.  The only real info is the cast and that it will arrive on March 15th next year.
  • New animated series from Avatar writer coming to Netflix: Aaron Ehasz, who was the head writer of Avatar: The Last Airbender, has teamed with Uncharted game director Justin Richmond for a new animated series for Netflix called The Dragon Prince.  The show follows two human princes who form an unlikely friendship with an elfin assassin who was sent to kill them and the trio tries to bring peace to their warring factions.

  • FX’s Y the Last Man pilot gets casting: FX’s in development adaptation of Brian K. Vaughn’s acclaimed comic series Y the Last Man has gotten it’s cast assembled for the pilot with Diane Lane, Barry Keoghan, Imogen Poots, Lashana Lynch, Juliana Canfield and Marin Ireland cast.  Keoghan will star as Yorick Brown, seemingly the only male human survivor of a disease that wipes out everything on Earth with a Y chromosome.
  • Neill Blomkamp directing a new Robocop: Neill Blomkamp has signed on to direct a new sequel to the original Robocop called Robocop Returns.  It seems like this movie will be taking a Halloween 2018 route and wipe out all but the original movie and be a direct sequel to that film. Original screenwriters Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner are producing and Justin Rhodes, who also wrote the upcoming new Terminator film, is writing the script.
  • Joaquin Phoenix Joker film officially on the way: WB/DC have officially confirmed that the Joaquin Phoenix Joker origin movie is officially on the way at some point.  The movie is being directed by Todd Phillips and it supposedly might launch some sort of new branch of DC movies that will be more experimental and not tied to continuity.  It’s also supposed to be set in the 80’s and be a sort of gritty, Goodfellasesque crime story.
  • The Russo Brothers bringing Quantum & Woody to TBS: The Infinity War directing team is bringing Valiant’s wacky feuding superhero brothers Quantum & Woody to TBS for a new TV series.  At one point Joel McHale was signed on to play one of the brothers but they may no longer be the case and it’s also not clear if this will be animated or live action.
  • Djimon Hounsou cast in Shazam: Djimon Hounsou is already a part of Aquaman and will also be a part of the upcoming Shazam movie, as he is cast as the wizard Shazam who passes his powers to Billy Batson.  The movie is arriving in April of next year.
  • Jeremy Renner joins Spawn movie: Joining Jamie Foxx in Todd McFarlane’s upcoming Spawn movie, Jeremy Renner has been cast as Detective Twitch, one half of the detective duo that investigates and sometimes joins forces with Al Simmons aka Spawn.  His partner, Detective Burke, still needs to be cast.
  • Billy Dee Williams back for Episode IX: Lando Calrissian, the OG version, will finally return in the upcoming ninth chapter of the main Star Wars saga as Billy Dee Williams has signed on for Episode IX.  JJ Abrams is back to direct and it arrives in December of next year.
  • Ultraman anime coming to Netflix: Japan’s Kaiju fighting superhero Ultraman is coming to Netflix in 2019 for a new 3D CG anime.  Kenji Kamiyama (who worked on Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) and Shinji Aramaki (who worked on Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars) will be running the series.
  • There is 1 Blockbuster left in the US: Following it’s massive decline after the advent Netflix, Blockbuster went from 9,000 stores to only 3, two in Alaska and one in Oregon.  The two Alaska stores have now closed, so the only Blockbuster left in the US is the Bend, OR location.
