Neon and Hulu are hoping their record-breaking acquisition of Palm Springs from Sundance earlier this year will pay off when the movie arrives on Hulu in July. Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti co-star as guests at a wedding at a resort in the titular Palm Springs who become trapped in a Groundhog’s Day/Edge of Tomorrow style time-loop where if they fall asleep or die, they wake up on the same morning of the wedding every time. The duo goes through the normal excitement and existential dread of the genre, getting into lots of consequence-free shenanigans but also realizing that nothing they are doing matters. JK Simmons, Camila Mendes, Tyler Hoechlin, Peter Gallagher, Meredith Hagner, and Chris Pang co-star, and the movie is directed by Mark Barbakow with Samberg and his Lonely Island bandmates Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer producing. It doesn’t seem as completely over the top as past Lonely Island joints like MacGruber or Popstar but it does seem to have the group’s meta-awareness and hopefully, it will offer up some fun spins on the time loop genre. It will be available to stream on Hulu on July 10th and you can check out the trailer below.
