Musical Montage: Wet Wet Wet “Love is All Around”

For 1994’s comedy Four Weddings and a Funeral, director Richard Curtis went to Scottish soft rock band Wet Wet Wet and gave them the option to cover a classic song for the movie’s soundtrack.  Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” and Barry Manilow’s “Can’t Smile Without You” were options but the band went with “Love is All Around” by The Troggs.  The song was first released in 1967 and was a big hit in the UK and the US, peaking at #7 on the Billboard charts.  The Wet Wet Wet version was a massive hit in the UK when it was released as a single in 1994, staying at #1 on the UK charts for 15 weeks and going 2x Platinum.  It was also number one in other countries like Wet Wet Wet’s native Scotland, Australia, The Netherlands, Denmark, and Finland.  In the US, it hit #41 on the Hot 100 and #8 on the Adult Contemporary chart.  For the music video, Marcus Nispel, who would later direct the reboot of Friday the 13th, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and the Jason Momoa Conan movie, directed and it featured the band with clips from the movie projected across various surfaces.  Check it out below.
