Musical Montage: Taking Back Sunday “Cute Without the E (Cut from the Team)”

Coming off their 2003 album Tell All Your Friends, Taking Back Sunday’s “Cute Without the E (Cut from the Team)” paid homage to David Fincher’s Fight Club with its music video.  Tell All Your Friends was the debut album for the emo/pop punk band, which formed in 1999 and underwent some lineup changes until things were finalized for Tell All Your Friends.  Vocalist and guitarist John Nolan was reading Fight Club, the novel, at the time of writing the songs for Tell All Your Friends and it inspired lyrics for songs like “Bike Scene”.  The actual Fight Club-inspired music video for “Cute Without the E (Cut from the Team)” was released toward the end of 2003 and outlets like Billboard credit the song as basically being the vanguard for bringing emo and pop punk into the mainstream.  The entire album was certified gold, having sold 790,000 copies.  You can check out the music video for “Cute Without the E (Cut from the Team)” below.
