Musical Montage: Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava “Naatu Naatu”
While it definitely should have been nominated for more awards, RRR rightfully snagged the Best Original Song award for “Naatu Naatu” at last night’s 95th Oscars (and also delivered an electrifying live performance of the song during the show). Performed by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava, the song is featured during RRR’s joyfully over-the-top dance sequence, where our heroes Ram (Ram Charan) and Bheem (Rama Rao) arrive at a snooty English party after being invited by Bheem’s love interest Jenny (Olivia Morris). Confronted by a group of English bullies, Ram and Bheem launch into “Naatu Naatu” and turn the entire party into a dance battle/party. The sequence took 15 days to shoot and the song itself took 19 months for composer M. M. Keeravani to create, going through 10 to 20 different songs before settling on “Naatu Naatu”. You can watch the entire “Naatu Naatu” sequence from RRR below.
