Everything Action Theater: Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac

With the franchise’s first live-action movie hitting this weekend, you can head back to the 80s and see where it all began with the first episode of Saint Seiya aka Knights of the Zodiac in the latest Everything Action Theater.  Originally a manga series created by Masami Kurumada, Saint Seiya became an anime series in 1986 from Toei Animation and spawned 6 other animated series, including the most recent Netflix CG animated series, and 6 animated movies.  The series follows orphan Seiya, who comes into possession of the powerful “Pegasus Cloth” and becomes one of the mystical warriors known as Saints (or Knights) and joins the battle to defend the reincarnated goddess Athena from the other gods who want to conquer Earth.  Toei teamed with DIC to bring the series to the US in the early 2000s and a heavily edited version called Knights of the Zodiac that aired on Cartoon Network but it did not fare well ratings-wise and DIC only dubbed 40 episodes.  Crunchyroll currently has the uncut original series on its streaming platform but you can also watch the episodes on the official Toei Animation Youtube channel and the first episode, “A New Era of Heroic Legends” is available to check out below.
