Musical Montage: Nelly “#1”

Although it feels like it would be more at home on the soundtrack for a Bad Boys movie, “#1” by Nelly was the lead single off the soundtrack for 2001’s Training Day. The soundtrack had perhaps the worst release date in music history on September 11th, 2001, but it still did fairly well on the Billboard chart, reaching #35 on the Billboard 200 album chart.  “Number 1” (or “#1”) was released shortly before the album on August 29th and reached #22 on the Billboard Hot 100.  The song was also included on Nelly’s second album in 2002, Nellyville.  While the music video doesn’t feature scenes from the movie, it is thematically related to Training Day as Nelly plays both a rookie and veteran cop in the vein of Ethan Hawke and Denzel Washington, who enter a club to investigate.  Joe Perry of Aerosmith also appears in the video and provides the guitar for the song.  You can check out the video below.
