Star Wars gets interpreted through nine Japanese anime studios for what looks like a wild ride of styles and tones for the upcoming anthology series Star Wars: Visions, hitting Disney+ in September.
After the release of Virtua Fighter 1 and 2, Sega worked with animation studio TMS to bring Virtua Fighter to TV with an anime series that debuted in Japan in October of 1995 and lasted 35 episodes until June 1996. The series followed Akira Yuki as he tried to see the “eight stars of heaven” and work with other fighters to save Sarah Bryant from an evil scientist.
The final season of Netflix’s excellent anime adaptation of Castlevania arrives in May as Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades attempt to stop Dracula’s resurrection while Alucard goes on his own quest and Isaac and Carmilla raise armies to try and conquer the land for themselves.
Mortal Kombat continued Warner Bros’ dominance of the pandemic affected box office with a strong debut and the #1 spot over the weekend but anime movie Demon Slayer The Movie: Mugen Train was an incredibly strong competitor and added to its already massive worldwide gross with its domestic release.
Announced in November of 2018, the Pacific Rim anime series is finally coming out on Netflix this March with Pacific Rim: The Black, which follows a pair of siblings who find an abandoned Jaeger in Australia and commandeer it to survive the Kaiju and look for their missing parents.
Although it’s not clear if it will be heard in this weekend’s Detective Pikachu, Pokemon still has one of the most iconic theme songs of all time, especially for 90s kids, with the English version sung by Jason Paige and the Japanese version sung by voice actress Rica Matsumoto.
