To get into the retro gaming mindset of AVGC this coming weekend, we watched the first episode of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show from 1989 with Captain Lou Albano as Mario and Danny Wells as Luigi in both live action and animated forms.
Arriving in 1987, Captain Power was an insanely ambitious TV show and toy line where the toys would interact with the action on screen and the show tried to capture both kids and adults with a dark setting and mature themes alongside laser battles and explosions.
Debuting in 1988 from animation factory DIC, C.O.P.S (Central Organization of Police Specialists) followed the titular group of heroic law enforcement agents, led by the badass Bulletproof Vess, as they battled the criminal organization of crime-lord Big Boss.
Auto Pilot is back once again for the summer and we’re kicking things off with the wonderfully insane martial arts show from 1995, WMAC Masters, that is like if Mortal Kombat and the WWE had a kid friendly baby as real life martial artists adopt wacky alter egos and compete for a shot to claim the Dragon Star.
Set inside the world of a 90’s computer, Reboot followed a Guardian named Bob as he worked to protect the city of Mainframe from evil viruses like Megabyte and he also had to play games launched by the “user” to keep sections of the city from being destroyed.
