Spider-Man: No Way Home remained at the top of the box office charts as January 2022 wrapped up and it’s made over $1 billion in the markets outside of the domestic market, the first Sony film to ever achieve that, along with a combined worldwide gross of $1.7 billion.

Spider-Man: No Way Home continued to dominate in the first weekend of 2022, crossing over $1.3 billion worldwide and becoming the 10th highest-grossing film of all time domestically.

After two years of diminished returns at the box office, Spider-Man: No Way Home delivered the kind of opening we haven’t seen since Avengers: Endgame and Star Wars with the second biggest opening of all time domestically and a massive global debut as well.

West Side Story took the top spot at the box office but its performance is definitely not what Disney/20th Century Studios was looking for with a weak opening of $10.5 million that will make it a massive flop if it doesn’t have the legs to get people coming to theater in the next few weeks.

There were no major wide releases this past weekend so Encanto remained on the top of the charts for a second weekend in a row while the best performing new release was a special Fathom event, Christmas with The Chosen: The Messenger, which came in 4th place.
