Inspiring the script for Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1999 epic Magnolia, Aimee Mann’s music is featured throughout the movie, including the Oscar-nominated “Save Me”.

With the passing of Olivia Newton-John last week, we’re paying our respects with this week’s Musical Montage by featuring one of her most enduring contributions to pop culture, Grease.

1988’s Buster is one of those movies where the soundtrack is more culturally relevant than the film as massive 80s hits like “Two Hearts” and “A Groovy Kind of Love” from the film’s star, Phil Collins and “Loco in Aculpalco” from The Four Tops exceeded the success of the movie they were featured in.

Although not quite as memorable as the music from the first movie, Bob Seger’s “Shakedown” from Beverly Hills Cop II is still a fun song that debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts and was nominated for a “Best Original Song” Oscar.

The theme song for both Mannequin movies, Starship’s song “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” was nominated for an Academy Award and hit #1 on the UK and US Billboard charts in 1987.

Taken exploded onto the action scene four years ago and cemented Liam Neeson as an ass kicking action hero. Now he’s back for Taken 2 but it unfortunately doesn’t live up to the original.
