After the release of Virtua Fighter 1 and 2, Sega worked with animation studio TMS to bring Virtua Fighter to TV with an anime series that debuted in Japan in October of 1995 and lasted 35 episodes until June 1996. The series followed Akira Yuki as he tried to see the “eight stars of heaven” and work with other fighters to save Sarah Bryant from an evil scientist.
Conceived to possibly help promote and raise interest in the Dreamcast, Sonic Underground debuted in 1999 and lasted one season. Set in a new continuity, it followed Sonic and his siblings Manic and Sonia as they searched for their mother and tried to stop Dr. Robotnik, who had taken over their home planet.
