Musical Montage: Jim Varney “Gee I’m Glad It’s Raining”

There have been a ton of bizarre moments from the various Ernest movies but the first one, Ernest Goes to Camp might have the most bizarre moment simply for how much tonal whiplash it gives the viewer.  When it seems like Ernest’s mission to help a group of kids save their summer camp from an evil businessman has failed, there’s a montage in which Ernest, with deadly seriousness, sings the melancholy song “Gee I’m Glad It’s Raining” while the campers all mope.  It’s so sad and serious and does not match anything else in the Ernest canon.  The song was written by Alice and Shane Keister, who also wrote other original songs for Ernest Goes to Camp.  Check out Gee I’m Glad It’s Raining below.
