Disney Drops Massive Star Wars and Marvel News and More During Investor Day Presentation

Disney held their annual Investor Day presentation today and it felt more like a Comic-Con presentation, with tons of new trailers and announcements for Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, Disney Animation, and more.  Check out everything they announced below.

Marvel:

  • Ant Man & The Wasp sequel is officially “Ant Man and The Wasp: Quantumania
  • Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn starring in Secret Invasion Disney+ Show
  • I Am Groot Shorts and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special coming to Disney+
  • Tatiana Maslany and Mark Ruffalo confirmed for She-Hulk Disney+ series
  • Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld officially co-starring in Hawkeye Disney+ series
  • Don Cheadle starring in Armor Wars series on Disney+
  • Christian Bale is officially playing Gorr the God Killer in Thor: Love & Thunder
  • The Falcon and The Winter Soldier debuts on March 19th on Disney+
  • Jon Watts, director of Spider-Man: Homecoming and Far From Home, is directing an MCU Fantastic Four movie
  • Dominique Thorne starring as RiRi Williams for Ironheart Disney+ series

Star Wars

  • Rosario Dawson starring in live-action Ashoka Tano series
  • Mandalorian spin-off “Rangers of the New Republic” announced
  • Billy Dee Williams starring in Lando limited series on Disney+
  • Star Wars: Visions will be animated short films from Japanese anime creators
  • The Acolyte is a Star Wars Disney+ mystery/thriller series set in the new “High Republic” era
  • Patty Jenkins is directing a Rogue Squadron movie
  • Hayden Christensen will return as Darth Vader for Obi-Wan, set 10 years after Revenge of the Sith
  • (Lucasfilm Update) Willow series will arrive in 2022 on Disney+
  • Animated “A Droid Story” series featuring C-3PO and R2-D2 coming to Disney+
  • The Mandalorian Season 3 will debut around Christmas next year

FX

  • Noah Hawley is developing an Alien series with Ridley Scott producing, set on Earth
  • Counterpart creator Justin Marks and Boardwalk Empire producer Tim Van Patten are developing a Shogun series, based on the bestselling James Clavell novel.
  • It’s Always Sunny is renewed for 4 more seasons, making it the longest-running live-action sitcom in TV history
  • The long in development Y the Last Man adaptation will be an FX on Hulu exclusive.

Disney Animation/Pixar

  • Raya and the Last Dragon will have a Mulan style theatrical and Disney+ “Premium Access” for $30 day and date release
  • Zootopia, Moana, Big Hero 6, and Princess and the Frog series are coming to Disney+
  • Pixar putting out Disney+ shorts based on Dug from Up, Lightning McQueen and Mater and a long-form animated series called Win or Lose, about a middle school softball team on their way to the championship
  • Chris Evans will voice Buzz Lightyear in “Lightyear”, which tells the origin of the fictional character from the Toy Story that Buzz is based on.
  • Turning Red is a new Pixar movie coming in 2022 which follows a teenage girl named Mei who turns into a giant red panda when she’s too excited.
  • Luca is out in June 2021
  • Encanto is a new Disney Animation Studios movie arriving next fall following a family in Colombia.
  • Disney is teaming with Pan-African studio Kugali for a sci-fi Disney+ series called Iwájú.
  • Diary of a Wimpy Kid animated movie coming to Disney+

Walt Disney Studios/Disney+

  • Hocus Pocus 2 officially confirmed, Disney+ exclusive
  • Mighty Ducks sequel series Mighty Ducks: Game Changers coming to Disney+, starring Emilio Estevez and Lauren Graham
  • Turner and Hooch remake confirmed with Josh Peck starring
  • Zac Effron starring in a remake of Three Men and a Baby, hitting Disney+ in 2022
  • Cruella, Peter Pan & Wendy and Pinocchio all coming to Disney+ instead of theaters
  • Disenchanted, Enchanted sequel, coming to Disney+
  • Sister Act 3 coming to Disney+
  • Andy Samberg and John Mulaney starring in a live-action/animation hybrid Chip & Dale Rescue Ranger movie, with The Lonely Island’s Akiva Schaffer directing.
  • Kristen Schaal and Tony Hale starring in an adaptation of The Mysterious Benedict Society book series
