Rambo V: The Savage Hunt *Updated*

So last week we found out that Rambo 5 had gotten the greenlight but over the weekend some news came out over at ramboAin’t it Cool News that the Rambo franchise might be going in a somewhat bizarre direction.  An official plot synopsis came out for the movie and instead of the previously mentioned, “Rambo saves a girl from Mexican human traffickers” plot the actual story is more science fiction, along the lines of Predator:

“A beast is loose somewhere north of the Arctic Circle…And the raging creature is headed south toward civilization, ready to wreak bloody devastation…It’s a job that Rambo and his 22-year-old hunting partner, Beau Brady, can’t turn down, but they and a team of highly skilled Special Forces Kill Team [sic] discover that the prey is beyond their wildest imagination, a half-human abomination created by a renegade agency through a series of outlawed genetic experiments…they’ll still have to confront the grim reality that it may have grown immortal.”

Stallone bought the rights to the novel Hunter a few years ago which has a very similar plot and Sly seems to be drawing a lot of inspiration from it.  I’m not sure what to think about this development, on the one hand it would be cool to see Sly’s take on the Predator formula but on the other hand it seems weird for Rambo to be fighting some genetic monstrosity.  What do you think a more sci-fi Rambo?

*Update 11/13*  Stallone recently sent an e-mail to Stallone fan site Stallone Zone and said that Rambo will be fighting more conventional enemies in Mexico and that he’s saving the government created monster for a different project.

  1. Cool, he’s getting creative, which I imagine is to shake things up so they’re unlike the other four.
