Musical Montage: Dua Lipa “Swan Song”
Dua Lipa’s new album Radical Optimism is out this week, which seems like a good time to throwback to the song she did for Alita: Battle Angel in 2019, “Swan Song.” Released in January before Alita hit theaters in February, the song was the lead single off the movie’s soundtrack and had some success in the UK but didn’t do much on the US charts. It was basically just a speed bump for Lipa, though, as Future Nostalgia was on the way the following year, and the massive hit “Don’t Start Now” hit streaming and radio in October of 2019. The song has a big-budget music video that fully puts Dua Lipa into the world of Alita, first seeing her struggle with fellow survivors in the dystopian world of the movie and fleeing a massive robot before meeting Alita herself and training in some fighting skills before becoming a Battle Angel herself.
