  • Minority Report becoming a TV series: Spielberg is producing a TV version of his film, following in the heels of Fargo, 12 Monkeys, Hannibal, The Devil’s Advocate (see below) and other recent movie to TV adaptations.
  • Fantastic Beasts movie gets a director: The Harry Potter spin-off will be directed by longtime Potter director, David Yates.  It’s based on a fictional text book of the Harry Potter universe, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
  • Shane Black directing a new Remo Williams book: Shane Black has been hired to direct an adaptation of The Destroyer, the first book in the Remo Williams series created by Warren Murphy and Richard Sapir.  Fred Ward played Remo Williams in the infamous flop, Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins.
  • Galaxy Quest getting a sequel: At least in comic book form, as IDW is publishing a new series picking up where the movie left off.  The general idea is that a new evil alien race confronts the Galaxy Quest cast because of their interference with time at the end of the movie and demand they fix things.
  • Jungle Book: Origins cast revealed: The Andy Serkis directed adaptation will also star Serkis as Baloo, Christian Bale as Begheera, Cate Blanchett as Kaa, Rohan Chand as Mowgli, Benedict Cumberbatch as Shere Khan, a trio of wolves played by Eddie Marsan, Peter Mullan and Naomie Harris and Tom Hollander as Tabaqui, a jackal.
  • TV Renewals The Strain, Halt and Catch Fire, Masters of Sex and Ray Donovan are all getting another season at their respective networks.
  • Sigourney Weaver passes on Expendabelles: Stallone recently expressed his interest in having Weaver lead the all-female spin-off team of The Expendabelles but Weaver has apparently passed on the role and there’s not really any other names on the short list as of now.
  • RIP Don Pardo: Legendary voice over artist Don Pardo passed away this week at age 96.  He’s probably best known for introducing the original Jeopardy and SNL.
  • Arrow casts Komodo for Season 3: Matt Ward has been cast as the rival archer Komodo in the upcoming season of Arrow.  Komodo was the main villain of the most recent Green Arrow comic book run by Jeff Lemire, who was Robert Queen’s former partner who betrayed him in his quest for a powerful arrow that grants it’s user tons of power.
  • The Rock basically confirms he’s Shazam: In some comments to a Brazilian website that was picked up by Latino Review, The Rock said he wanted to announce that he’s Captain Marvel aka Shazam at Comic Con but WB said it was not the right time and the official announcement should hopefully be soon.
  • The Mountain is now Europe’s Strongest Man: Game of Thrones’ Hafþór “Thor” Björnsson is now Europe’s Strongest Man, having won the yearly contest with four out of six events.
  • Star Wars Rebels release date announced: The new Star Wars show will debut on Disney Channel on October 3rd with a one hour special before the regular season debuts on Disney XD on October 13th.
  • Mockingbird cast for Agents of Shield: A classic Marvel hero is coming to Agents of Shield with Bobbi Morse aka Mockingbird coming to the series in Season Two, played by Adrienne Padlicki.
  • Bradley Cooper playing Mack Bolan: The pulp hero of over 900 novels starting in 1969 may be played by Bradley Cooper in a movie by Todd Phillips.  Phillips is mostly a comedy director, but it’s not clear if this is going to be a straight action movie or more a spoof.
  • Keanu Reeves starring in TV series “Rain”: Rain will follow Reeves as hitman John Rain, a half Japanese/half American who specializes in killing targets in ways that look like accidents.  There’s no network yet for the show
  • The Devil’s Advocate becoming a show on NBC: NBC is adapting the Al Pacino/Keanu Reeves supernatural legal thriller into a show that will hopefully follow in the footsteps of their Hannibal reboot.  John Wells of Shameless is producing the show and NBC has ordered a pilot with most likely a series order coming soon after.
  • Dr. Strange is apparently not an origin story: According to some insider info from Badass Digests’ Devin Faraci, the script for Scott Derrickson’s upcoming Dr. Strange movie picks up with Dr. Strange established as the Sorcerer Supreme, and won’t focus on his path to get there.
  • New Ant-Man cast announced: John Slattery, Judy Greer, Bobby Cannavalle and TI are all joining Ant-Man, with Slattery previously being Howard Stark in the Iron Man movies and will most likely reprise his role in Ant-Man, as the intro of the movie is rumored to be Hank Pym meeting with Stark and other high profile scientists.
  • The Vampire Lestat gets a director: We found out that Universal had gotten the rights to every book in Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles series and now the first film of that deal, an adaptation of The Vampire Lestat, is getting a director with The Fault in Our Stars’ Josh Boone, who is also supposed to direct the new version of The Stand.
  • Sharlto Copley starring in Powers: Copley will star as Christian Walker in PSN’s upcoming original series, based on the comic by Brian Michael Bendis.  Walker is a cop who was previously a superhero himself, but lost his powers in a battle with a supervillain and now investigates crime involving “powers”.  Susan Heyward co-stars as his partner, Deena Pilgrim.
