Viggo Mortensen has a ton of movies that have been hitting the festival scene including The Two Faces of January and now Far From Men, a Western set in 1950’s Algeria. Mortensen is a school teacher who is forced to transport a dissident (Reda Kateb) to a local police station but they get caught on the way between the warring native Algerians and the French colonizers, which forces the pair to form a tenuous alliance in order to survive. If nothing else, Mortensen looks great as usual but I think this is going to be much more introspective and dramatic than your usual Western inspired movies. It’s going to be at the Venice Film Festival and Toronto Film Festival this year, where it will probably get a distributor and a release date. For now, you can see the trailer below.
