Upfronts 2017: ABC

ABC has been cruising along with their “Shondaland” dramas like Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy and their comedies like Modern Family and The Goldbergs and most of those are all coming back next season, with the major exception of Last Man Standing, which was cancelled after six seasons.  Agents of SHIELD will be back to keep up the Disney/Marvel synergy and a new Marvel series focusing on the Inhumans is arriving in the fall as well. They are also reviving American Idol after Fox recently ended it. Check out what’s renewed, what’s cancelled and what’s new below.

Alex, Inc.

Alex Schuman is an inquisitive journalist, husband and father who dives headfirst into the brave new world of entrepreneurship when he quits his stable job and starts his own business. Based on the podcast.

The Crossing

Refugees from a war-torn country start showing up to seek asylum in an American town. Only the country these people are from is America and the war they are fleeing is 250 years in the future. The local sheriff with a past, a federal agent and a mother in search of her missing refugee daughter drive this allegory with a surprising conspiracy at the center.

Deception

When his career is ruined by scandal, superstar magician Cameron Black has only one place to turn to practice his art of deception, influence and illusion — the FBI. Using every trick in the book and inventing new ones, he will help the government catch the world’s most elusive criminals while staging the biggest illusions of his career.

For the People

Set in the Southern District of New York Federal Court, aka “The Mother Court,” legal drama follows brand-new lawyers working on opposite sides — for both the defense and the prosecution — as they handle the most high-profile and high-stakes cases in the country, all as their personal lives intersect.

The Good Doctor

A young surgeon with Savant syndrome is recruited into the pediatric surgical unit of a prestigious hospital. The question will arise: Can a person who doesn’t have the ability to relate to people actually save their lives?

Marvel’s The Inhumans

The Inhumans are a race of superhumans with diverse and singularly unique powers, and the TV series will explore the never-before-told epic adventure of Black Bolt and the royal family.

Ten Days in the Valley

Roseanne

Iconic comedy series “Roseanne” will return to ABC. The eight-episode reboot, featuring the original cast – Roseanne Barr (Roseanne), John Goodman (Dan), Sara Gilbert (Darlene), Laurie Metcalf (Jackie), Michael Fishman (D.J.) and Lecy Goranson (Becky) – will air in 2018. Sarah Chalke, who played the character Becky in later seasons, will also appear in another role.
