  • Nacho Vigalondo directing adaptation of Comeback: The Time Crimes and Colossal director is working with The Walking Dead’s Robert Kirkman to adapt the Image comics series Comeback.  The comic, created by Ed Brisson and Michael Walsh, is about an illegal time travel company that will save people in the past for a price and two of the “Reconnect Agents” have a mission go bad and are on the run from both the FBI and their company.
  • Ellen Page starring in The Umbrella Academy for Netflix: Based on the comic by Gerard Way, The Umbrella Academy is a superhero comic set in an alternate world where JFK was never assassinated and an alien disguising himself as a British lord adopts seven misfits with superpowers and trains them to be come superheroes.  Page will play Vanya, who initially seems like she doesn’t have any powers but is actually secretly the most powerful member of the seven.  Fargo’s Steve Blackman is executive producing and the show will debut sometime in 2018.
  • Major Star Wars News: Disney dropped two huge announcements about the future of Star Wars this past week with one item being a live action television series that will be a part of their 2019 streaming service and the other bit of news is that Rian Johnson, director of The Last Jedi, is heading up a completely new trilogy of movies that will be separate from the Skywalker Saga and explore a part of the universe that has never been seen before.
  • Metal Gear Solid movie gets screenwriter: An MGS movie has been development for years but it’s finally getting closer to being real with Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts at the helm and, announced this week, Derek Connolly, Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom screenwriter, to write the script.  The movie will be based on the original MGS from 1998 as Solid Snake infiltrates a facility to destroy a weapon known as “Metal Gear”.
  • Niantic developing Harry Potter ARG: The developer of Pokemon GO are tapping into another giant franchise with a mobile Harry Potter ARG.  Called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, players will be able to cast spells, find artifacts and battle magical creatures in real world locations and team up with fellow players for adventures. No word on when it will be released.
  • Blade Runner 2049 may lose over $80 million: Despite being visually stunning and conceptually compelling, Blade Runner 2049 suffered a similar fate to it’s predecessor in that only the true film and sci-fi fans headed out to see it, leading to it losing possibly $80 million for it’s production company Alcon.
  • Black Adam may debut in Suicide Squad 2: A rumor on The Wrap says that there may be talks to bring in The Rock’s Black Adam to debut in Suicide Squad 2, which is probably looking at a possible Fall 2019 release.  Black Adam is getting a solo film separate from the debut of his nemesis, Shazam.
  • The Boys picked up on Amazon: The next comic adaptation from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, The Boys got an 8 episode first season order on Amazon Video.  The comic and the show follows a black ops government team that makes sure the superheroes of their world don’t go over the line, with brutal beat-downs if needed.
  • Dark Universe is closer to death: After the critical destruction and mediocre box office performance of The Mummy, the Dark Universe took one more step closer to dying before getting started as heads Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan both left the franchise at Universal this past week.  Bride of Frankenstein, the next film in the franchise, was also put on “indefinite” hold about a month or so ago.
  • Creed 2 may be looking for actor for Ivan Drago’s son: It’s getting more and more confirmed that Creed 2 will involve the return of Ivan Drago and it seems like maybe the search for Ivan Drago’s son might be started.  The UFC’s Sage Northcutt revealed he sent in an audition tape for the part but nothing has been officially confirmed for Creed 2 outside of vague hints on Stallone’s Instagram.
  • Wentworth Miller leaving the Arrowverse: On his Instagram, Wentworth Miller revealed he’s shooting his final appearances as Captain Cold for the Arrowverse shows.  Cold will appear in the big “Crisis on Earth-X” crossover starting on November 27th and in another episode of Legends of Tomorrow but then will move on to other projects.
  • Mondo working on Jurassic Park and Fight Club games: Mondo’s first game, The Thing: Infection at Outpost 31 is out soon and at the recent MondoCon, they announced that they will be developing games based on Jurassic Park and Fight Club next.  Fight Club will be a card game with a unique mechanic while Jurassic Park will feature asymmetrical gameplay with a player controlling InGen, players as park guests, a player controlling the raptors and one player controlling the T-Rex. Both are expected in 2018.
  • Billy Batson cast for Shazam: With Zachary Levi cast last week as Shazam, his alter ego has been cast as Disney star Asher Angel will play Billy Batson.  Angel is currently on the Disney show Andi Mack and in the movie, as in the comic, when he says “Shazam!” he turns into the Supermanesque Shazam.
