Calamity Kate was on the road to becoming a famous hunter. But a new hunter is come to challenging Kate’s popularity. Javelin has started to take Kate’s kills, getting the fan appreciation Kate once had. Javelin also has the dream of taking on the Seven Fabled Beasts of Yore, further enraging the already heated Kate. Now a rivalry has begun and Kate takes the competition on a personal level. Will Kate be leveled headed enough to focus on her goals or let her anger ruin her pride?
Monster hunters seem to aware of not only their prey but for other hunters as well. That’s the case for Kate as Javelin appears to always be nearby on Kate’s hunts. Javelin is a sword-wielding, leather pants wearing, badass that gets under Kate’s skin. Javelin begins to claim a few of Kate’s kills, driving Kate to become more reckless in outdoing the other hunter.
As Kate makes her intentions to beat Javelin, Kate will have to confront evil creatures and her own personal demons. Kate took up the hunter profession to get a fresh start on life, but Javelin’s interfere mess with her head. Magdalene Visaggio doesn’t stop the action for Kate to dwell on her feelings. Visaggio launches Kate into in wild fights, letting Kate trying to reclaim some of her lost reputations. Corin Howell artwork lets Kate go off with explosive rage when sidelined by Javelin, letting her guard down at the wrong times. Howell’s visuals that show the hardcore monster hunter is still human and makes the occasional slip-up. With two hunters fighting to be the best, there’s no shortage of monsters to kill, and their rivalry continues into the next issue.
