Harry and Lloyd made a triumphant return to theaters this weekend with a fantastic $38 million and took the top spot away from Big Hero 6.  The movie was the biggest ever opening for The Farrelly Brothers and the best opening for Jim Carrey since Bruce Almighty.  It’s slightly below another recent, anticipated sequel, Anchorman 2, which made $39 million in five days out and is also better than movies like Bad Grandpa and Identity Thief.

Big Hero 6 dropped a little over 36% from last week’s win but pulled in another $36 million, putting it over $111 million for it’s two weeks out.

Interstellar dropped to third with another $29.2 million and is just shy of crossing $100 million with $97.8 million for it’s two weeks out.  It’s probably going to end up around fifth place as far as Christopher Nolan’s movies go, because it’s probably going not going to get anywhere near Batman Begins’ total gross of $206 million, which is currently Nolan’s fourth best.

The other new release of the weekend, Beyond the Lights, had a fairly mediocre opening of $6.5 million, lower than either of director Gina Prince-Bythewood’s other releases but it might get some word of mouth because both critical and audience reactions are strong.

Gone Girl rounded out the top 5 with another $4.6 million.

Elsewhere on the charts, Birdman entered the top ten by coming in tenth with $2.5 million at 857 theaters.
