The current masters of stop motion, Laika, are back and following up the goofy charm of The Boxtrolls with an epic looking feudal Japanese adventure, Kubo and the Two Strings. The movie follows Kubo (voiced by Game of Thrones’ Art Parkinson), who accidentally unleashes an ancient, vengeful spirit and he must flee from his quiet seaside home. He joins forces with Monkey (Charlize Theron) and Beetle (Matthew McConaughey) and he tries to learn the secrets of his father, who was the greatest samurai who ever lived, and master his shamisen, a magical musical instrument. Ralph Fiennes, Rooney Mara, George Takei, Carey-Hiroyuki Tagawa and Brenda Vaccaro co-star and the movie arrives in August of next year and looks like, at least animation wise, to be as stunning as every other Laika feature.
