After a bunch of reshoots and retooling, HBO’s remake of Westworld is finally debuting this fall, and it looks like it was definitely worth the wait. Based on the Michael Crichton directed 1973 movie starring James Brolin, Yul Brynner and Richard Benjamin, Westworld is a futuristic theme park that offers guests the chance to fully immerse themselves in a give time period, West World obviously being set in the wild west and there was also Roman World and Medieval World as well. There are highly advanced robots in place instead of actors and guests can engage with them in pretty much every way but one gunslinger robot (Brynner) goes rogue and starts killing guests and the rest of the robots start malfunctioning as well. The original was basically Jurassic Park mixed with The Terminator but HBO’s version looks like it’s going in a much more disturbing and headier, Blade Runneresque direction, as the robotic actors in West World begin to question who they are and the reality of their universe. Ed Harris takes over as the evil Gunslinger and Anthony Hopkins, James Marsden, Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright, Clifton Collins Jr, Thandie Newton, Rodrigo Santoro and Tessa Thompson round out the cast. JJ Abrams and Jonathan Nolan are executive producing and it’s supposed to start this October. Check out the trailer below.
I’m like the J. Jonah Jameson of Everything Action, writing and editing and constantly demanding pictures of Spider-Man.
