After a bunch of quick 10 second teasers, the first full trailer for Ghost in the Shell is here. Based on the beloved anime series, Scarlett Johansson stars as Major, a cyborg special ops agent who leads Section 9. Trying to stop a new criminal who is targetting the Hanka Robotics company that helped create her, Major uncovers secrets about her past that cause her to question everything. Ghost in the Shell was one of the major inspirations for The Matrix and it looks like the movie is paying that back as visually, it’s taking a lot of cues from the Wachowskis trilogy but it’s directed by Rupert Sanders, who directed Snow White and the Huntsman. Having not seen the anime, I don’t really have preconceived notions about who should be playing what or what it should look like but action wise and setting wise, it looks pretty cool and this along with Valerian makes it seem like it’s going to be a pretty good year next year for crazy sci-fi action. Ghost in the Shell is out on March 31 next year and you can check out the trailer below.
I’m like the J. Jonah Jameson of Everything Action, writing and editing and constantly demanding pictures of Spider-Man.
