Musical Montage: The Weeknd “Nothing is Lost (You Give Me Strength)”

If you saw Avatar: The Way of Water this past weekend, you heard “Nothing is Lost (You Give Me Strength)” over the end credits.  Performed by The Weeknd, the latest pop song from a James Cameron epic, following in the footsteps of “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion from Titanic and “I See You” by Leona Lewis from the original Avatar.  The Weeknd worked with the film’s composer, Simon Franglen, and Swedish House Mafia to compose and produce the song.  Franglen took over composing duties for the film when the first movie’s composer, and frequent Cameron collaborator, James Horner tragically passed away in 2015 in a plane crash.  The song incorporates many elements of the film’s score and the chants of the Na’vi with synth pop and The Weeknd’s vocals.  The song was released digitally on Thursday last week with the movie’s opening.  You can check out the official lyric video below.
