Enter Barbie Land in July with the Barbie Movie (Trailer)

After a stylish but cryptic teaser, the first actual trailer for Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie is here.  Set in the world of Barbie Land, everyone who lives there is either a Barbie or a Ken and lives an idyllic, neon color-soaked life of beach parties, roller skating, and dream houses. Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are the main Barbie and Ken the movie follows but there is also Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, Ncuti Gatwa, Nicola Coughlan, Alexandra Shipp, Ritu Arya, Emma Mackey, Dua Lipa, Ana Cruz Kayne, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Hari Nef, Scott Evans, Sharon Rooney, and Issa Rae.  Where things get weird is that Barbie Land seems to co-exist with the “real world” where Robbie and Gosling’s Barbie and Ken end up, meeting humans like America Ferrara and Will Ferrell, who is the CEO of Mattel.  Helen Mirren also co-stars as the narrator.  Gerwig co-wrote the script with Noah Baumbach along with directing.  It looks like there will be tons of in-jokes and references to various pieces of Barbie paraphernalia along with a healthy dose of meta-self-awareness.  Barbie is out in theaters on July 21st and you can check out the new trailer below.
