Musical Montage: The Facade Band “Say the Word”

Sounding more like the opening to an 80s sitcom than a horror movie, you nevertheless hear “Say the Word” by The Facade Band at least 3 times over the course of the ridiculous Primal Rage from 1988.  A sort of campier predecessor to 28 Days Later, the movie stars Patrick Lowe as Sam Nash, who works as a reporter for his Miami college school newspaper.  His friend and fellow reporter Frank Duffy (Mitch Watson) investigates the experiments that are being done by Dr. Ethridge (Bo Svenson) and is bitten by a monkey and infected with a “rage virus” that turns him into a violent and dangerous zombie and the infection starts to spread across the campus.  As far as “Say the Word”, you hear it during the light-hearted opening credits and, most importantly, at the climactic Halloween party where everyone in attendance seems to have costumes that were designed for a David Lynch movie and again during the end credits.  The song was written by Greg Bonham but there doesn’t appear to be any information about the actual band, who seem to have only existed once to record this song.  It most definitely was not released as a single and there’s no soundtrack album either but you can listen to the song below.
