Musical Montage: Jennifer Love Hewitt “How Do I Deal”
The slasher sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer came out 25 years ago today on November 13th, 1998 and, while it co-starred Brandy, it was actually Jennifer Love Hewitt who had a song on the movie’s soundtrack, “How Do I Deal”. The sequel sent the survivors of the first movie, Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr., along with some other friends to the Bahamas but the vengeful killer fisherman from the first movie seemingly follows them to paradise and begins a new killing spree. The movie’s soundtrack was released along with the movie but “How Do I Deal” didn’t get released as a single until January 1999. The song was the only single from Jennifer Love Hewitt to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, although it peaked at a relatively low #59 after seven weeks. The song did much better overseas, especially in New Zealand and Australia, peaking at #8 in the latter and going gold. A music video was shot to accompany the song and it does include clips from the movie, although they are projected onto a sheet behind Hewitt for seemingly artistic purposes but it makes it difficult at times to discern what you’re looking at.
