Musical Montage: Cannibal Corpse “Hammer Smashed Face”

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective turned 30 this past weekend and one of the most memorable moments from that 90s comedy classic is when Ace (Jim Carrey) finds himself at a Cannibal Corpse concert while trying to outrun some goons.  The death metal band was formed in 1988 in Buffalo, NY and the song featured in Ace Ventura, “Hammer Smashed Face”, was the band’s debut single and was on their debut EP, which also included a cover of Black Sabbath’s “Zero the Hero”.  It was also included on the band’s 1992 album, Tomb of the Mutilated, which was banned in Germany until 2006.  Because of its inclusion in Ace Ventura, “Hammer Smashed Face” is one of the most popular and recognized Cannibal Corpse songs and Rolling Stone listed it at #93 on their 100 Greatest Heavy Metal Songs list last year.  There’s no official music video for the song but you can check it out below in audio form.
