Musical Montage: The Jeff Healey Band “Roadhouse Blues”

One of the things that the recently released Road House remake is missing is a house band in the vein of the Double Deuce’s band, which was The Jeff Healey Band. Blind since he was one year old, Jeff Healey taught himself to play guitar starting at age 3 by placing the instrument on his lap and he became an extremely gifted blues, rock, and jazz guitarist.  He formed The Jeff Healey Band with bassist Joe Rockman and drummer Tom Stephen and they discovered playing clubs in Toronto by the legendary Stevie Ray Vaughn and Albert Collins.  After signing with Arista Records in 1988, the band had their biggest hit “Angel Eyes”, which reached #5 on the Billboard charts.  For Road House, Healey plays Cody, Dalton’s friend and the leader of the Double Deuce’s house band and the group performed 4 songs for the soundtrack, including a cover of “Roadhouse Blues” by the Doors.  “Roadhouse Blues” got a Road House-themed music video that you can check out below.
