After a run of extremely heavy dramas like There Will Be Blood and The Master, Paul Thomas Anderson seems to be lightening things up with the 70’s caper, Inherent Vice. Based on the novel by Thomas Pynchon, Joaquin Phoenix is a PI named Larry “Doc” Sportello who finds about a real estate/kidnapping plot from his former girlfriend. It definitely feels like a Coen Brothers, Big Lebowski type of movie and also in the vein of Elmore Leonard, where a quirky situation can quickly turn 180 and get serious. Reese Witherspoon, Josh Brolin, Jena Malone, Michael K Williams, Katherine Waterson, Benicio Del Toro, Owen Wilson, Eric Roberts and Martin Short are just some of the ridiculous cast and the movie is out in limited release December 12 and will expand nationwide on January 9th. I’m like the J. Jonah Jameson of Everything Action, writing and editing and constantly demanding pictures of Spider-Man.
